Cold Cast Limited Edition Wall Sculpture
About Cold Casting
Cold Casting is a method of creating sculpture with the quality and shine of metals or stone, but with minimized weight so they can be hung on the wall. A sculpture is formed by a process of mixing designer resins with specialty metals or stone powders and painstakingly applying them into a silicone mold. After the sculpture has hardened, it is extracted from the mold and the finishing process begins. Christopher uses a variety of finishing methods, including burnishing, abrasive blasting and hand polishing. The resulting finish has the look and feel of real metal or stone but without the weight. Special treatments can be achieved with genuine patinas, metallic inlays and lacquer. Each piece takes several days to complete and is unique.
About Limited Editions
Some of Christopher’s sculptures are one-of-a-kind originals that are commissioned and can have as many diverse finishes as the limited editions do. The cold cast wall sculptures are better inclined to being a limited edition since a mold must be made in order to reduce the weight of the piece. The limited editions are equally as beautiful, but can be priced more desirably. Christopher attempts to make each piece unique by including sculptural applications or inlays and a wide variety of finishes. He also chooses to keep the editions low in number to ensure the rarity of the artwork. Each piece is signed and numbered, and when the edition is completely sold out, the mold used to create it is destroyed.
